Casio Men's G-Shock Solar Atomic Timekeeping Watch #GW002KA-3V

Product Description

Perfect for your active lifestyle, this casio G-Shock men's digital sport watch (model GW002KA-3V) is solar-powered and wirelessly receives atomic time updates. This powerfully styled watch features a durable dark gray resin case and polyurethane strap. It offers a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60-minute measuring capacity as well as four independent daily alarms (with one snooze alarm), world time from 30 cities, and an autocalendar (to the year 2039). And because it's solar-powered--charging in either sunlight or indoor light--you'll never have to deal with changing the battery. Other features include a scratch-resistant mineral crystal, AfterGlow LED electro-luminescent backlight, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)--suitable for recreational scuba diving.

This radio-controlled watch receives a time calibration signal transmitted from Fort Collins, Colorado, and signal reception is possible within a radius of about 2,000 miles from the Fort Collins transmitter. You can choose to automatically receive this signal four times a day, or manually update the watch to the atomic clock.

Got this watch, before the price went up, too bad as I was going to buy another but not at almost doublr the price, but watch is nice looking, has atomic clocktime feature, and solar power, makes it worry free. not as big as some G-Shocks, so thats nice, fits on my large wrists. helps to like the color green.

I've had this Casio for about a year now and am very pleased with it. It has everything that I was looking for: solar power, atomic timekeeping, and shock resistant. Working the watch's functions is about the only problem as they are not obvious or intuitive. However, a look at the owner's manual and I could access everything that the watch had to offer. For the price, an excellent, rugged watch. Recommended.

This is a great watch. I wanted to get a watch that was either solar powered or motion powered. I like the G-shock watch because it is very durable, so I shopped around for a solar G-shock. I originally thought about buying a Casio analog-digital G-shock, but opted for this rainforest edition (GW002KA-3V) instead.

Pros: This watch is very durable, light, comfortable to wear. The Atomic time keeping function works well and my watch seems to be able to synch every day with the Ft. Collins clock (I live in southern NH). The watch has a lot of useful functions. I like the multiple daily alarms. The countdown timer is very convenient too (even though you can only set it to a maximum of 1 hour). The stop watch is easy to read when I am working out. Also, the backlight works very well, plus the watch can be set to use an auto-on feature, which turns on the backlight when you raise your wrist as if to look at the watch. This is useful, for example, when I am riding my bicycle in low light and want to glance at the time and need to keep one hand on the controls.

Also, the strap is very comfortable. It has sort of a cloth-like texture/coating, but still seems to be very durable. I think it's more comfortable than my older Casio G-shock watch (which has an uncoated plastic strap).

The price was right too. I think this is a good value for a durable, useful watch.

Cons: The watch is a little big/bulky, but not too bad otherwise. Sometimes my shirtsleeve will get stuck on the watch as I undress, but it's not too inconvenient.

I have purchased three watches for family members and the watch does all as advertised except for one problem. The back lighting goes on with very little wrist movement. All three developed this after a few months. I am concerned about unnecessary battery use. I have contacted Casio with no response.

There are three circular indicators on the face of this watch. I'm puzzled by the one on the left. It's not mentioned anywhere in the manual. Does anyone know what its function is?

Update: This mystery indicator *does* do something -- every 5 minutes it shows another bar. My follow-up question, then, has to be "WHY???" What use is this feature? The little bars inside the mystery circle are tiny and very difficult to see. So why take up space on the watch face for that? Seems like a poor use of space. I'd much rather have no third circle, in return for slightly larger time digits as are on some other G-Shock models.

GREAT LOOKING BAND AND CASE. NUMBERS ARE A LITTLE SMALLER THAN MY OTHER G-SHOCK WATCHES, YOU HAVE TO TOGGLE BACK & FOURTH TO SEE DAY AND DATE OVERALL VERY PLEASED WITH THE WATCH.

I would like to emphasize the comfort of this watch. I'm not one who likes wearing anything weighty.. Nor do I like jewelry. It took me months to get used to a lightweight wedding band.

It's overall appearance is durable and tough. The face appears slightly larger than the average watch - which it is. But the watch looks good with the normal sized LCD screen emphasized, and the rugged outer not too prominent. It is a functional, tough, quality timepiece.

The function buttons are not too complex.. It's easy to toggle from timekeeping to alarm, to stopwatch, to timer. I especially like the countdown timer. I can think of lots of uses for it. And, I I LOVE that the watch has a smart functioning LCD that lights itself up when you bring your wrist in front of you and turn it 40 degrees to view it. Voila! No more straining to figure out the time in difficult lighting.. There is a criticism in one of the reviews that the alarm function is not very loud. There is some truth to that if you are comparing it to and alarm clock or a church bell.. But it's plenty loud enough to get your attention if you are awake. If you were napping and expected it to wake you.. I'm not sure you would have much luck with that.

Overall, I rate this watch an exceptional value.

I have several digital watches and even the "classic" casio g-shock, but this is the first g-shock that looks well made. When I look at it, it reminds me of a top of the line Nikon or Canon SLR Camera. Both watch and camera are well designed, purpose built devices with no glitz. The bits and pieces, including the plastic ones, have been put together in a simple, direct manner without the cheesiness that one comes to expect from digital watches. The band has a very good feel to it, as if it was more than an after thought. The lettering on the watch face is in clear white letters in a simple font. The buttons are slightly recessed and are imbued with enough color contrast to the surrounding housing to be recognizable without calling too much attention. The case of this rugged watch is fairly large and not for the timid, but because of the dark well rounded body, it does'nt call too much attention to itself. In other words, it looks like a well made tool rather then a computer chip embedded in cheap plastic. Congradulations Casio this is the first g-shock that doesn't look as if it belongs on some video game character!

I really like this watch. It just feels right and looks great.
Just had a few issues catching the atomic signal in some areas.
Recommended.
