Casio Men's G-Shock Classic Digital Watch #DW5600E-1V

Over the years I have owned a great any timepieces. Everything from Rolexes and Omegas to cheapy no-name pieces of junk. In my work which involves a great deal of time on, in and under the water, there has only been one watch that has never let me down - the Casio G-Shock. It does the job, day in and day out. I've managed to wear out cases and straps on G-Shocks, but I've never flooded one or had it fail. I really don't need fancy, I need dependable and the Casio is the most dependable timepiece I've ever found.


This is the best watch I have ever owned. You can tell it is extremely well made the moment you pick it up. I will concur with some of the other reviewers that the button on the top left can be hard to press if you don't have any fingernails. That would be my only complaint. Extremely functional with almost no bells and whistles (just the way I like it). Being in the military, I was looking for something simple and tough that wouldn't draw a lot of attention...this is it. I could not be happier...in fact I am ecstatic. This is the watch I should have bought 5 years ago instead of buying the cheap Ironman watches which always fall apart after two years of use. I have never owned a $25 Wal-Mart watch for more than two years. That was a sunk cost, but now I have a "real watch" that I am sure will last for years. Look no further.


This 5600 has everything I need, and nothing I don't:
- It tells you the time, date, and day of the week at a glance.
- It has 1 alarm (not 5 like many other G-Shocks -- too fidly).
- A countdown timer (with the current time shown in the upper box).
- A stopwatch (again, time is still shown).

That's it. If you want fancy "features" like inaccurate temperature readings, barometric pressure graph which gets distorted by temperature and altitude, 19 alarms, and world time in 7,000 cities around the world -- look elsewhere! This watch does exactly what a wristwatch should, which in my opinion is tell the time, and take an absolute beating. I don't particularly want to stand in public pressing 15 buttons on my watch, just to set a quick alarm to remind me of something. This 5600 keeps everything relatively simple (obviously go through the manual when you first get it).

(I started collecting G-Shocks; they have all since been given away/sold since I discovered this little beauty. I had a Riseman, Gulfman, Mudman, and G7700 -- and none of them were worn after purchasing this. And I paid AUS$350 for the Riseman!)

The design of this watch is absolutely classic. It is truly a "timeless" design for a digital watch. The best thing about it is the simplicity -- it is one of the few G-Shocks which doesn't have random circles which show the seconds, bar graphs, a bezel 2 inches off your wrist, etc etc. It's clean and simple.

As far as durability, I haven't taken mine off for over 6 months; it's been swimming indoors, at the beach, smashed against shelving time and time again (I'm a storeman), it gets run under hot water about 10 times a day for hand-washing, I shower in it, sleep in it, play with my kids at the park ... It is yet to show ANY visible damage -- absolutely amazing!

The buttons are fine to press. After setting the alarm, starting the stopwatch, whatever, it returns you to the time mode with a single button push. Again, there is no nonsense, like scrolling through 5 more modes just to get back to the time display.

If you are also looking at the "solar atomic" model of the 5600, please consider -- the batteries in this watch will last years and years, and it will keep very accurate time (I reset it against Internet atomic time every few months and it's never been out by more than a few seconds). In my opinion solar & atomic are essentially "gimmicks" in wristwatches (no offense to those that enjoy those features, but, I see them as useless, and I have owned a solar G-Shock).

I 100% recommend this watch for the no-nonsense buyer who wants a relatively slim/sleek G-Shock with all the toughness, and non of the "fluff".


This watch has every feature that I want and no more, is incredibly rugged, and fits perfectly in every environment. This is my third G-Shock, and I doubt I'd every buy anything else.


I've had this watch for over thirteen years. It never once failed me and I've only replaced the battery once.

The only thing I've had a problem with is that the casing around the watch has broken and fallen off, but if you contact casio they will replace it for you for a resonable charge.




My first exposure to a G-shock was in the engine room of a USN destroyer, on the wrist of a gas turbine technician while we were standing the midwatch. "That watch looks tough," I said. "I don't know...let's find out," he replied, then took it off, picked up a rubber mallet and started pounding it like a madman. It bounced around on the deck plates but never cracked or broke. I was sold.

This watch looks identical to that watch but is deficient in a few ways. The second time zone feature is gone, and perhaps as a result the functions of the buttons are rearranged in a way that feels screwy. New purchasers of the watch will probably like it just fine. Users who bought the old version for $25 twenty years ago from the commissary will have the unpleasant feeling of talking to a best friend who's been lobotomized.

It's still a solid product--excellent for all manner of outdoor activities (though too thick to fit inside a standard dress shirt sleeve cuff)--but I'm frustrated with Casio's poor headwork in redesigning it backwards.


I have owned a couple of watches like this over the years and forgot how light weight and practical they are. The first watch [in the past] I ever owned that didn't get a rainstorm when worn by a working man. Don't let anyone tell you you can't put a flex band on because it can be done. Highly recommended. The very first Casio watch I had was a 50M dress watch, resin. When I saw a G-Shock advertised for a ridiculous price at a local discount store I determined to get there. Dropped off after work 15 miles away, I forded a 4 ft. deep stream, clambered through a patch of thorns as tall as me, and got hit by a car taking a 'shortcut' to the sale. The store tried to tell me they were out (because the paper had the wrong price) but I wasn't going anywhere without a watch. They finally relented and I got my G-Shock for a real bargain! And it took whatever punishment I gave it. From operating chain saws to cross-country running through mud and dust my G-Shock perservered. Always on time, stop-watch and alarm always ready, there was never a more useful tool in my essential survival kit. I bought it in 1987 and in 1995 I gave it to a homeless man, still running. That was one durable timepiece, it took the most beating of any of my half-dozen G-Shocks. I definitely recommend this series of watches.


As you get to be my age, it is difficult to find the products that defined a category still in production. The new replacements often have modifications that in my mind make them inferior to the originals. Sometimes it appears as though the new product was designed by someone who has actually never used one in "real life." Typically, I am forced to access the pre-owned market to get what I want. Not in this case. The Casio Men's G-shock Classic Digital Watch is very similar to the watch that replaced the stop watch, the dry land and not-so dry land wrist watch, and alarm clock a couple of decades ago. It has just enough functionally to be truly useful - time (24 or 12 hour), date (helps when filling out those forms that are becoming part of daily life), alarm (for those early morning activities), stop watch (for that interval training necessary to retain some of the speed of youth), and a couple of other things that have slipped my mind :-) all in a small and durable package. Good, inexpensive, tough, useful watch.


I've had this watch for 5 months and I really like it. Only one gripe here: I'd like to have the ability to keep the backlight on while setting the alarm.

Casio Men's Sea Analog Illuminator Dual LED Dive Watch #MDV102-1AV

This is a great watch for the price.
I own a couple of more expensive dive watches and was looking for a cheaper version to wear for yard work to not have to worry about any scratches it may pick up, this one does the trick. For $50 it is a very solid watch. I would agree with other reviewers that the strap is the weak point of this watch, if I were planning on wearing this often I would definitely want to change it but for occasional use it will do just fine.
From a distance it definitely looks great, up close I would not agree with reviews that make it sound like it compares to the likes of a luxury watch. The bezel is busy with information and the curved glass makes it appear to me that the face is sunken down into the watch. The pictures here make it appear that the face is jet black with contrasting white text, minute and hour markers that really 'pop'. In reality the face is more a very dark grey and the appearance is more bland and less contrasting.
However, I didn't buy this expecting another Submariner and I am very happy with the watch. The bezel action feels very solid and it has kept very accurate time so far. The only other dissapointment I have is the short lasting luminosity of the dial, however the light is so powerful this is really a non-issue. You won't find better for $50!


Received this watch recently and so far am impressed. The important facts are:

1) It looks much nicer in real life, than the pictures here show. It looks very classy and just looks great.
2) The LED light is outstanding. I don't know how much it will affect battery life though. Shouldn't be too much since it's an LED.
3) The band it came with is thick rubber (like a gshock) and I am a little disappointed in it's feel. I'll probably try to find a better band. Despite the band, I still gave it a 5 star because the watch itself is gorgeous and bands can be replaced easily enough.

BTW, this could be a great (and cheap) gift too. It's really really nice looking.


I received this watch two days ago and love it. I, unlike many others, do not have problem with the wrist strap. The illumination is great at night, but the watch also has a glow feature that when charged works quite well. I would recommend this watch to people looking for a bold but not too large dial face watch. Since it is able to reach decent diving depths , it is useful as a beginning divers watch. Great watch overall. Can not complain about anything so far.


Like most of the other reviews I read.....this is a really nice watch for the $. The band is a bit stiff, but it fits me well enough to be comfortable. The crystal is convex, and mine has scratches after only a couple weeks of wearing it.......but I work outside, and who cares ?? It still looks great. Killer light. Very bright. I'll buy another one when I wreck this one. I like it.

I just received this watch and wow. It looks like a much nicer time piece than it's low price suggests. It seems very sturdy but not too heavy or thick on my wrist. I don't have a problem with the band, it seems like any other plastic Casio watch I've owned. The white hands stand out on the black face better in person than the factory photo depicts. If you are looking for a no nonsense face watch with a nice bright light, this is it.


The watch was received quickly, and the quality is very good. I'm a firefighter, so I abuse it quite often, and it's holding up great for a cheap price.


did not care for the band. and the knobs on the watch gouge me. i would have returned the watch if i hadn't thrown the packaging away.

Casio Men's Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch #AW80D-7AV

Casio Watch has too many dials and knobs and poor directions for the average non-technical person to handle. Impossible user manual. Had to return for a simpler watch that tells the day, date, and time.

May be a good deal for those who know how to use it.


What a bargain. It looks like an expensive watch with all the good features. I was really surprised and amazed when the date accurately took into account the leap year in February, so I guess that means the date has been programed for the entire ten year life of the battery. Strongly recommended.


Great watch! Inexpansive, good looking, has taken a lot of beating these last couple of days AND it's still TICKING! I am very pleased with this product. It has a lot of fearures I don't use, well worth the price...can't go wrong with a Casio!!!


I purchased this watch to replace a G-Shock. This watch has more features, and is 1/4 the price I paid for the G-Shock. I have been using it for about a month now and am really happy with my choice. Truely, "more bang for my buck". Not to mention the estimated 10 yr. battery life.


I bought this for my son for Christmas and he is extremely pleased. Lots of bells and whistles, and a terrific deal!


If you have ever traveled to New York City and stopped by one of those street side venders, this watch is about the same quality. Save your money.

this watch is awesome, the displays read easily, The functions are easy to use, the illumination is great when you need it. The size, the shape and the configuration just seem to suit me, This product is very cool and it is very easy to set the place, time,etc. Thank you Amazon for exceeding my expectations.


I have been wearing metal band watches for a long time, but now that I work in a hospital, I wanted something lighter and digital. So I purchased this watch with absolutely no expectation, since it was so cheap. After wearing it for about a week, I have realize that this watch is great! It is very simple to read and it has the seconds "pie" counter right in the middle. (which beats staring at a ticking seconds hand in my opinion) It is both analog and digital and it is pretty stylish for a 20 some odd dollar watch. I have been wearing it everyday since I got it.

To sum it up:
-Great deal considering all the functions
-Light and stylish
-Easy to read
-Analog and digital


I've had this watch 6 months now and it is a favorite.
PROS: The functions are easy to use, the displays read easily, and the illumination is great when you need it. It's also not too big or bulky. The features work, aren't too gimmicky, and the price is great. I travel a lot, and this is just what I was looking for (without dropping $300+) to get similar features.

CONS: The face is easily scratched. In the first week, with light use, the face already had scratches, and since then it has gained more. I can still read the face, but it is annoying at times to see the scratches. I cannot understand how there is not a G-shock version of this. Casio should at the very least make the black plastic face surround rise above the surface to protect against scratching. I would pay another $50-$100 for the same watch with a toucher exterior, and solar power. Aside from that, it is, for me, a great watch that I plan to keep.


I don't know why I like this watch so much, but I do. The size, the shape and the configuration just seem to suit me. I'm not one of the types that uses the more advanced features, but as a basic watch, this works just great. If you've had Casio watches before, the location of the buttons will not be a surprise. I just plain like it.


So I had this Nike Triax watch that I used for running. All i wanted was time & stopwatch. After about 1 year the watch just died. When I went to a watch repair shop they wanted $25 to replace the battery. I didn't even know if it was the battery that was the issue. Anyway, I didn't bite on the battery change as there were some features of the watch i didn't like either(buttons sticking/not working, the alarm getting set very easily, etc). So now I have a BRAND NEW, fantastic watch with more functionality and IMHO looks tremendously better for $28.

Buy this watch. Give it as a gift to the timekeeper in your life or to an expectant mother at her baby shower so she can keep time between contractions or to your boss as a gesture of how happy you are to have a job in this economy or just be greedy and buy it for yourself.

Oh I almost forgot... I opted for the free shipping on this one and it was expected to come on 2/12/09. I received the watch on 2/9/09. So, it has been a great experience all the way around. Thank you Amazon for exceeding my expectations.


Pros: Looks nice; good mix of analog with digital display; very light

Cons: Crystal very easy to scratch (took only 2 days); Analog hands don't glow; pressing any button after illuminating will turn OFF illumination; buckle bites into skin usually after getting wet.


So far so good. Nice lighting for night. Only negative is that the crystal is easily scratched


excellent watch. it has style. easy to use,set etc. just wish the band was a little longer.


Received in two days from Amazon Prime and was pleased to open box and find it is exactly as described on web. I like the way that the analog hands glow in the dark and are always readable and the extra nightlight button that illuminates watch when it's pitch black. Watch feels extremely light on my wrist and I have a large wrist and other comments about band being too small are wrong. This watch should fit large wrists fine. Set-up was ok and I wish they could just print instructions with larger type so they can be read easier! Overall, nice watch and stopwatch for the money!


i purchased this b/c of all the glowing reviews, and its fine for my purpose which is for the gym and hiking and generally abusing it a bit, plus i wanted digital and lightweight. it is indeed these. the two downsides i found are that the digital numbers are not as bright or bold as other watches ive seen, and the face of this watch is plastic, and mine in just a couple months has already formed these odd permanent spots like water-spots all over it. for the price though, its fine.
